Reason for water pump leakage

(1) When installing the water pump, the water seal seat ring assembly was not installed properly, causing the water pump to continue leaking water. 

Due to the presence of a water blocking ring on the pump shaft corresponding to the inspection hole, when the water seal leaks, the cooling water will be thrown out and drip from the inspection hole of the water pump when it encounters the water blocking ring along the pump shaft. 

This can prevent the cooling water from entering the bearing and damaging lubrication.

 In addition, when replacing the water blocking ring, not paying attention to the poor connection and sealing between the pump body and the pump cover can also cause water pump leakage.

(2) The working environment of construction machinery is harsh, which can easily cause uneven wear between the rubber sealing gasket and the lining end face; Springs soaked in water for a long time are prone to rusting, decreased elasticity, and can also cause water leakage.

(3) Forgetting to release water or releasing water uncleanly during winter, as well as releasing water at excessively high temperatures, can cause the water pump body to freeze and crack, resulting in water leakage.

(4) The machine is old, and the wear, corrosion, and aging of the components inside the water seal are also reasons for water pump leakage. 

When construction machinery is parked for a long time, the lack of cooling water in the engine causes the rubber gasket to dry and shrink, resulting in deformation; 

After adding water, the rubber gasket may expand but cannot fully restore its original state, which will inevitably cause a small amount of water leakage.

 In addition, for newly installed water pumps, the rubber gasket and cast iron liner have not been fully worn in, which will also cause a small amount of water leakage from the water pump.

Emergency response measures

-If the water pump of the engine being operated is found to be leaking water, it should not be stopped immediately. 

It should be kept at a low and stable speed, and water should be added to the cooling system (note: when opening the water inlet cover, a cover should be placed above it to prevent scalding by the emitted water vapor), to cool down the engine. 

Drive slowly for a short time until it reaches a nearby hidden place before removing it. 

-If the water leakage occurs suddenly due to the rupture of the water pump casing, or if the internal components of the water pump are damaged and lose their pumping function, relevant parts can be replaced as appropriate to eliminate the fault.

-If the water pump is severely damaged and there are no repair conditions on the way, the inlet and outlet pipes of the water pump can be directly connected to fully utilize the natural circulation of hot and cold water to temporarily maintain the normal temperature of the engine; Alternatively, a tube or bucket can be used as a container to firmly secure it, and then two rubber hoses can be drawn out from the container, one connected to the engine's inlet and the other connected to the engine's outlet. The other ends of both hoses should be inserted into the container and securely fixed.

-If only the water pump casing cracks and leaks water, the cracks can be cleaned up and then repaired with adhesive. For emergency purposes, a mixture of egg white and cement can be used to form a sticky ball and applied to the crack. After a few minutes of solidification, it can be used.

It is also common for the water seal of the water pump to leak during the operation or driving of construction machinery. As long as there is no damage or swelling deformation of the water slinger, insufficient or broken spring force of the water seal, emergency treatment can be carried out. 

The specific method for emergency response is: if the water seal of the water pump has slight leakage due to poor sealing, but the wear is not too severe, a sandcloth can be laid on the glass or flat plate to smooth the sealing surface of the water seal; You can also flip the rubberwood water seal before use.
